Wartsila has signed a contract with Tarbit Shipping in Sweden to convert a product tanker to LNG propulsion.

The company said it will convert the 25,000dwt Bit Viking and install an LNGPac system to store LNG.

The contract includes the conversion of the tanker’s two main engines to gas-fuelled propulsion, adjustments to the ship’s systems and updating the vessel’s classification certificate.

The Finland-based company will also install two 500³ LNG storage tanks.

The modification is expected to be completed by June 2011.
