Samsung Heavy Industries has secured a $630m contract with Norway’s Viken to build five oil tankers and an offshore platform vehicle.
The South Korean shipbuilder will deliver five shuttle tankers with a capacity of 100,000mt, which will carry oil from an FPSO to an overland facility.
The ships, scheduled to be deployed in Brazilian offshore fields, will be delivered by 2013.
Another contract with an unnamed US company includes the construction of a tension leg platform, which is scheduled for delivery by 2013.
With this order, Samsung’s deal value stands at $6.1bn and it aims to reach $8bn by the end of the year.
