Hyundai Engineering has secured a $329m contract from Abu Dhabi Ports Company to build the Khalifa Port and Industrial Zone project.
The project includes the construction of a 1,000m semi-automated container terminal and 1,400m break bulk and general cargo terminal.
South Korea’s Hyundai Engineering and Construction will execute project management, design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of all civil works associated with the construction of the project.
Khalifa port will initially handle two million teu of containers and nine million tons of general cargo while the completion of all phases will enable the port to handle 15 million teu containers and 35 million tons of cargo.
Phase 1 of the port is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2012, according to portsworld.com.
