The company said it will develop the project in phases and the first phase of work is expected to start in 2011.

L&T has acquired about 1,200 acres of land for the project, of which 800 acres will be used to build vessels 210m long and 46m wide.

The firm plans to deliver eight commercial vessels and 36 interceptor boats for the Indian Coast Guard by 2013, according to business-standard.com.
