US-based marine transportation company Edison Chouest Offshore has selected Caterpillar Marine to provide Cat Tier 4 Final C280-16 generator sets for two new vessels.
The new vessels are currently being constructed at Edison Chouest’s La Ship shipyard in Houma, Louisiana, and each one will be equipped with a Cat generator rated at 5,060bkW at 900rpm.
Caterpillar Marine product definition engineer Nathan Kelly said: "The C280 generator sets are incredibly popular in offshore applications, offering customers the lowest possible emissions technology in the industry, while also providing the lowest owning and operating costs.
"We’re also able to differentiate ourselves by working tirelessly with our customers and Cat dealers to deliver highly engineered, custom offerings that provide the highest uptime."
Manufactured in Lafayette, Indiana, Cat C280 generator sets have been engineered to offer customers better performance, reduced smoke and extended maintenance intervals, Caterpillar stated.
Combined with a fuel-efficiency optimised engine, Tier 4 Final C280-16 generators will be capable of meeting the low nitrogen oxide emission standards.
Caterpillar Marine key account manager Bart Long said: "We value delivering innovative, sustainable solutions for the marine industry and we’re proud to provide Chouest with reliable power that will meet Tier 4 Final emission standards."
It also features the selective catalyst reduction (SCR) technology that helps to reduce the owning and operating costs.
Earlier this year, Caterpillar extended its range of Cat diesel generator sets for North America that have been certified to meet the seismic provisions of all published editions of the International Building Code (IBC).
The company said it will now offer the widest range of diesel generators sets with IBC certifications and OSHPD seismic pre-approval.
