Liuzhou Yinliu Hotel Management has signed an order with Afai Southern Shipyard in China and Damen Shipyards to build a 35m luxury ferry.

The aluminum-hulled ferry will be designed by Damen to its 3508 design and built by Afai Southern Shipyard.

Scheduled to be delivered in the first quarter of 2013, the DFe 3508 vessel can carry 100 passengers.

After delivery, the ferry will be used by the municipal government of Guangxi Liuzhou in China to receive both government and industry representatives for official meetings and sightseeing tours along the Liujiang River.

The aluminum ferry will be outfitted with a conference room, a VIP-room and spacious passenger rooms with extensive catering facilities.

Damen product director of fast ferries Henk Grunstra said from an early stage, the company has been monitoring the development of Chinese shipyards and slowly it has started to cooperate with some of the best of them.

"In addition Damen was the first European shipbuilder with its own shipyard in China," Grunstra said.

"Over the years Afai Southern’s production capacity and capability has grown. They match with Damen’s vessel designs and our approach to shipbuilding."

Both Damen Shipyards and Afai Southern have been working in close cooperation according to business and production standards since 2001 to build aluminium vessels.

Collaborating together the shipyards have earlier delivered two 85m RoPax ferries to Turkish ferry operator IDO, the biggest aluminium vessels built in China, the company said.
