Damen Shipyards has secured an order from Edinburgh-based ship operator MarineCo UK to build a Multi Cat 2712 workboat.
The 27m-long and 12m-wide Multi Cat 2712 is a new type in the Damen Multi Cat series and this contract marks the second order for the model.
Equipped with two engines, the vessel will have a maximum bollard pull of 35t in combination with a shallow draft.
The new boat will be constructed with a logical, functional and maintenance-friendly design of wheelhouse and deck layout and will capable of operating in shallow and deep waters.
Delivery of the vessel is expected to be in April 2015 when it will be named Marineco Havanah.
The Damen Multi Cat workboat will be capable of carrying out tasks such as dredging, towing and offshore wind. It will undertake anchor, pipeline or cutter-head handling and repair, as well as transportation of fuel, spare parts and crew to wind turbines.
Damen has already delivered several high-speed support vessels, Multiple FCS 2610 Twin Axes, a Damen Stan Tug 2608, Multi Cats and Damen Shoalbusters for MarineCo UK.
Marineco UK is one of the few UK operators with an all-Damen fleet, the shipbuilder said.
Recently, Damen delivered last vessel of a series four Damen ASD 2810 tugs to Trinidad’s ARC Towage.
