South Korea-based operator Seaspovill has awarded a contract to Damen Shipyards Group to deliver a new Fast Ferry 4212 catamaran.

The new high-speed catamaran passenger ferry will be named Sea Star 5 and is the second boat in the series to be delivered to Seaspovill.

The 42.2m-long and 11.6m-wide ferry will be able to accommodate a total of 449 people, with 306 seats on the main deck and 143 on the upper deck. Sea Star 5’s large wheel house can house three crew members.

"The ferry’s air-conditioned main deck offers 30in LCD television screens, DVD players and lavatories, including one for disabled people."

Featuring a spacious cargo room for baggage and light cargo, the ferry’s air-conditioned main deck offers 30in LCD television screens, DVD players and lavatories, including one for disabled people.

The boat can cruise at a maximum speed of 40k, is powered by four MTU main engines (16V2000 M72) and consumes low levels of fuel.

Sea Star 5 will be constructed at the company’s Singapore facility and will be ready for delivery in early 2015.

This second ferry will run service between Mookho and Ulleung-Do on the east coast of South Korea.

In January 2011, Damen successfully delivered the first Fast Ferry 4212, Sea Star, to Seaspovill.

Damen was able to deliver the first vessel within six months of the order being placed. The vessel now operates between Gangneum and Ullungdo.
