Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has received an order from Carnival Corporation to build two new cruise ships for its brands Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America Line.

One of the new-builds will be Carnival Cruise Line’s 26th addition to its fleet and will be a sister ship to Carnival Vista, which is currently under construction at Fincantieri shipyards.

"These beautiful new ships on order from Fincantieri signify our ongoing commitment to provide the best possible guest experience."

With a gross tonnage of 133,500t, the new vessel will be capable of accommodating 3,954 passengers and is expected to enter service in the spring of 2018.

The new order also marks the second Pinnacle-class ship to the fleet of Holland America Line and will be a sister vessel to Koningsdam, which is being built at the Italian shipyard.

This new-build will have a gross tonnage of 99,500t and will carry 2,650 passengers. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in the second-half of 2018.

Carnival Corporation president and CEO Arnold Donald said: "These beautiful new ships on order from Fincantieri signify our ongoing commitment to provide the best possible guest experience across our industry-leading brands.

"New ships with the latest in features, accommodations and innovations, really bring the modern cruise experience to life and will help us continue to grow new demand for cruising."

Earlier this month, Fincantieri secured an order from Carnival Corporation’s Seabourn to build a second ultra-luxury ship. The order was the result of exercising the option included in the contract signed in January.
