US-based Calgon Carbon’s subsidiary Hyde Marine has partnered with Goltens Green Technologies to simplify the process of installing Hyde Guardian Gold ballast water treatment system (BWTS) on vessels.

US-based Calgon Carbon’s subsidiary Hyde Marine has partnered with Goltens Green Technologies to simplify the process of installing Hyde Guardian Gold ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) on vessels.

The partnership will allow Hyde and shipowners to use Goltens’ precision 3D laser scanning and modelling to accurately position the systems onboard the vessel and mitigate the risks associated with manual installation.

In 2004, the International Maritime Organization adopted the international convention for the control and management of ships’ ballast water and sediments. This called for all vessels to treat ballast water and keep ballast tanks free of any organisms or pathogens.

"By selecting Goltens…Hyde Marine will help shipowners accurately determine the proper space necessary for installation of a ballast water treatment system."

Hyde BWTS uses filtration and ultraviolet disinfection processes to treat ships’ ballast water and prevent the spread of organisms from one port to other.

Hyde Marine president John Platz said: "By selecting Goltens as a strategic ballast water treatment engineering partner, Hyde Marine will help shipowners accurately determine the proper space necessary for installation of a ballast water treatment system, which will enable them to comply with approaching ballast water treatment regulations."

Under the partnership, Hyde will also work with Goltens’ six green stations worldwide for the engineering of its ballast water treatment process. The stations are located at Oslo, Miami, Dubai, Singapore, Shanghai and the Netherlands.

Goltens Green Technologies business development manager Jurrien Baretta said: "We are looking forward to helping advance Hyde Marine’s objectives in the maritime marketplace.

"Our team is pleased to work alongside Hyde Marine to help shipowners through our vast experience in engineering and maintaining critical equipment, such as ballast water treatment systems."
