US-based Leevac Shipyards Jennings has won a contract from Aries Marine for the construction of two platform supply vessels (PSVs).

Both vessels will be built to Leevac Design Services (LDS) 270 diesel electric (DE) PSV design with a length of 82m, breadth of 17m and depth of 6.5m.

Each vessel will have a deadweight capacity of 4,000LTsw, capable of transporting more than 13,000 barrels of liquid mud.

The vessels will also feature propulsion drives and thrusters supplied by Schottel and a DP-2 system from Marine Technologies.

Each of the vessels will also be equipped with four 3516C Caterpillar generators rated at 1,825kw.

Joiner work will be carried out by Marine Interior Systems, while Siemens was selected by Aries to provide integrated electrical systems.

The LDS 270 DE PSVs will be equipped with the Siemens Blue Drive system, used to control the power management, vessel control, machinery, alarms, power and propulsion systems.

Construction of the two vessels will start soon at Leevac’s Louisiana shipyard, with delivery scheduled in October 2014 and February 2015.

The new vessels will be added to Aries Marine’s existing fleet, bringing its total number of vessels to 28.
