Lomar Shipping has ordered six container vessels from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding of China.
Each of the vessels will have capacity of 1,100 teu and have a homogeneous load capability of 705 teu at 14mt/Teu.
Designed by the Chinese design institute Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI) the vessels will be able to carry up to 220 reefer containers.
The vessels are scheduled for delivery from May 2014.
Lomar CEO Achim Boehme said: "There is a distinct lack of global newbuilding orders for these particular improved CV1100 ships so they will meet real needs and be vital to the future of high-performance shipping around the world."
The latest order follows Lomar’s earlier order for 12 newbuilding bulk carriers and container ships from two other Chinese shipyards.
Lomar is a shipping unit of Libra Group which owns and manages a fleet of bulk carriers, container ships, offshore vessels, LPG carriers, product carriers and chemical tankers.
After the six vessels join its fleet in 2014, the company’s vessel fleet will increase to 50 vessels.
In March 2012, Lomar had ordered six 2190 teu container vessels from Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard of China.
The vessels will be designed by SDARI and scheduled for delivery from early 2014.
In February 2012, the company signed a deal with China’s COSCO Group for six ‘Ultramax’ bulk carriers.
Designed by SDARI, the Ultramax vessels are scheduled for delivery starting from early 2014.
The new Ultramax bulk carriers will be designed to carry up to 11% more cargo than conventional Supramaxes while consuming 13% less fuel, the company said.
