MacGregor, a part of Cargotec, is to supply its side-rolling hatch covers operated by MacGregor’s MacRack technology for the Greek bulkers being built by Sungdong Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in South Korea.

The order includes the design and supply of the components and fabrication of the hatch covers for the five 180,000 dwt bulk carriers currently under construction.

Of the five bulk carriers, two will be delivered to Quintana Shipping, and three to Alcyon Shipping.

The hatch cover panel is operated by an electrically-driven MacRack unit, which is mounted at the associated longitudinal coaming that connects with the rack fitted below the hatch cover panel.

The unit lifts the panel up from its closed position and then rolls it away to its open, stowed position.

The first vessel is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2014.
