Marin Teknikk has won a contract from Otto Candies of Louisiana, US, to design and engineer a new subsea support and construction (SSCV) vessel.

Candies Shipbuilders, a private shipyard of Otto, will build the vessel based on Marin Teknikk’s MT6020 design.

The new MT6020 design vessel will have a length of 102m, width of 20.6m and will be fitted with a 150t crane as well as two ROVs (unmanned submarines) that can operate in waters up to 3000m deep.

Capable of accommodating 90 people, the new vessel is designed according to the latest rules in terms of stability, security and emissions of pollutants.

The new vessel will also feature the SPS code, which comprises the latest requirements for damage stability and will help the ship in operating in all areas of oil and gas exploration and production.

The vessel is expected to be operated in the US portion of the Gulf of Mexico and must therefore be built in the US, the company said.

The contract also includes an option for an additional bigger vessel of MT6022 design, which would have a length of 108m, beam of 22m and be capable of carrying 110 people.

Otto Candies currently focuses on operations in Mexico, Brazil and Africa with its fleet of offshore supply vessels, inspection maintenance and repair vessels, diving vessels, special purpose vessels, crew boats and deck barges.

Candies Shipbuilders manages construction, maintenance and ship conversion for the company.
