Rolls-Royce to deliver deck machinery for Maersk’s vessels

Rolls-Royce has signed a £54m contract with Norwegian shipbuilder Kleven to supply an extensive package of advanced deck machinery for six new high-end anchor-handling tug supply vessels (AHTS) being built for Maersk Supply Service.

In October, Danish shipowner Maersk Supply Service awarded a contract to Kleven for the construction of six Salt ship design AHTSs, which also included the option for four additional vessels.

The six AHTS vessels will be installed with a triple drum main anchor-handling winch with a pull capacity of 500t, along with two secondary winches.

"The more complex vessels become, and the greater the focus on safety and efficiency, the more differentiated are the kinds of deck machinery our customers need."

In addition, they will be equipped with cargo securing winches and other auxiliary equipment, as well as a dry bulk cargo system.

This agreement offers the option for an anchor recovery frame, which would assist the launch and recovery of anchors.

Based on the Salt200 design, the vessels will be constructed at the Kleven Verft and Myklebust Verft shipyards in Norway.

The ships are expected for delivery between the fourth quarter of 2016 and third quarter of 2017. If the options are exercised, the additional vessels will be delivered in the first quarter of 2018.
