Scorpio Tankers orders four LPG carriers and four product tankers

Scorpio Tankers has ordered four very large gas carriers (VLGC) and four product tankers at South Korean shipyards.

Four VLGC vessels have been ordered at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) and Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME), while two MR and two Handymax ice class-1A fuel efficient product tankers have been ordered at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) of South Korea.

Each of the VLGC vessels will cost $75m and have a capacity to carry 84,000m³ of LPG.

Scorpio Tankers has also secured an option to order additional tankers at the same price.

"The vessels are scheduled for delivery in the third and fourth quarters of 2015."

Scorpio Tankers has also signed an agreement with HMD to build four product tankers, which includes two 52,000dwt MR product tankers for $35m each, and two Handymax ice class-1A 37,000dwt product tankers for about $32m each.

The MR tankers are expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2015, while the Handymax ice class-1A tankers are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Scorpio Tankers has also taken delivery of the 11th MR product tanker to be built under its newbuilding programme, STI Fontvieille.

The company currently owns 18 tankers, including one LR2 tanker, four LR1 tankers, one Handymax tanker, 11 MR tankers and one post-Panamax tanker.
