ST Engineering’s VT Halter Marine wins contract to build two ConRo vessels

Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering) has announced that its US Shipyard, VT Halter Marine, has won a $350m contract to build two container roll-on/roll-off (ConRo) vessels for Crowley Maritime Corporation.

Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering) has announced that its US Shipyard, VT Halter Marine, has won a $350m contract to build two container roll-on/roll-off (ConRo) vessels for Crowley Maritime Corporation.

The ConRo vessel is equipped with the latest systems technology for maximum safety and reliability, and measures 219.5m long and 32.3m wide, with a depth of 10m. The vessel will be powered by environmental-friendly liquefied natural gas (LNG), setting a new standard in shipping.

Wärtsilä Ship Design, a supplier of ship design and engineering services, has been selected to provide the vessel design.

The vessels will be built at VT Halter Marine’s facility in Pascagoula, Mississippi, US, and construction will commence in the first half of 2014. Deliveries of the vessels are expected in mid and late 2017.

ST Engineering noted that this contract is not expected to have any material impact on the company’s consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share, for the current financial year.
