The Port of Mobile in Alabama, US, is to invest $350m to upgrade the port over the next three years to make its transportation and terminal more efficient.
The investment will be used to build new interchange and intermodal rail yards, a new warehouse and make cargo yard improvements for the port’s steel business and cargo terminal upgrades.
Alabama State Port Authority will also use the money to attract new industry, create new jobs and increase the state’s shipper competitiveness.
The port expansion will accommodate growing regional exports and deepwater oil and gas field production service industries, according to bizjournals.com.
