CMA CGM Group is testing the viability of a new eco-container called Eko-Flor, which is built with composite non-wood flooring.
The French shipping company claims the new containers, developed by Canadian company Conforce International in partnership with Bayer, avoid the harmful impact that container flooring production can have on rainforest deforestation.
The new Eko-Flor container flooring is made of advanced reinforced compound materials, which have a low-weight, reducing energy in transportation. They also require low energy to produce, have a longer service life and can be re-used and recycled.
They are also resistant to water, oil, odour and microbes, according to lloydslistdcn.com.
The French shipping firm will test the product for the next six months.
