The three phases of the $2.8bn Erhama bin Jabir al-Jalahma shipyard have begun in Ras Laffan, Qatar.

The shipyard has been designed for the repair and maintenance of very large LNG carriers and a wide range of other vessels.

The yard features two large dry docks and a ship construction hall.

The facility will have the capability to handle up to 150 ships a year when phases 3, 5 and 6 will be completed within two years.

Nakilat has partnered with Singapore-based Keppel Offshore & Marine and Netherlands-based Damen Shipyards Group to operate the shipyard.

A joint venture company, Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine, will operate phases 1 and 2 of Erhama bin Jabir al-Jalahma.

Another JV firm, Nakilat Damen Shipyards Qatar, will manage phase 4.

The shipyard work was undertaken as part of the comprehensive development of Ras Laffan Industrial City, managed by Qatar Petroleum.
