Vietnam has started construction in the $491m Cua Lo deep water port project in the province of Nghe An.

The first phase of the three-phase project will include building a wharf that can accommodate 30,000t vessels and another for 50,000t vessels.

The first phase of the project is scheduled for completion in 2015.

In the second phase, four wharves will be built for 30,000t vessels and two wharves for 50,000t vessels, with construction scheduled for completion by 2020.

The last phase of the project will be completed in 2030 and will include the building of eight wharves for 30,000t vessels, three for 50,000t vessels and one for 100,000t vessels.

After the completion of the first phase, the port’s capacity will reach three million tons of cargo a year, and will increase to 15-18 million tons when the port is fully finished, according to
