China’s Shipbuilding Volume Up

China has completed 56.76 million dwt of shipbuilding during January-November 2010, up by 55.4% on 2009.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China’s shipbuilding volume increased by 33.6% to 5.96 million dwt compared with 4.96 million dwt it recorded in November 2009.

The shipbuilding volume in November increased by 19.7% from 4.98 million dwt it completed in October this year.

Chinese shipyards received shipbuilding orders of 63.98 million dwt between January-November, which is 2.8 times the ordered volume received during the same period last year, out of which 77% of the orders are from overseas.

By the end of November, Chinese shipyards had orders totalling 199.36 million dwt, 5.9% up year on year, according to platts.com.
