The Port Authority of Houston in Texas, US, handled 249,000t of steel in December 2010, an increase of 174% from 2009.

Port Authority chief executive officer Alec Dreyer said container revenue increased by 12% in December and 11% in total in 2010, while turning basin revenue went up by 25% in December and 8% overall in 2010.

The Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority approved a $1.2m construction contract for a security system at Bayport’s Marine Emergency buildings and other professional environmental and engineering services.

The commissioner also awarded a $310,000, five-year contract to Gahagan & Bryant Associates to oversee its Greens Bayou remediation project.
