Turkey’s Dokuz Eylul University Maritime Faculty has conducted a study to develop an east Mediterranean container terminal in Mersin International Port in Turkey using Transas Simulation solutions.

The study started by developing an initial plan for the container terminal using the Transas Model Wizard, a software tool for creating and editing simulation areas.

The plans were determined following input from harbour pilots under international rules and numerous ship manoeuvres were performed using different ship models in five different revision plans.

During the study, modelling team and authorised harbour pilots assessed the approaching channel depth/width, the ship manoeuvring basin, the turning circle, stopping distance, and necessary bollard pull of tug boats for the new container terminal.
