Marine terminal operator DP World has acquired controlling stakes in Integra Port Services (IPS) and Suriname Port Services (SPS), two ports based in Suriname on the north-east coast of South America.
IPS controls rights for a cargo terminal in the capital Paramaribo’s Nieuwe Haven Port, which has container throughput capacity in excess of 100,000teus and could potentially double its capacity in the near future.
SPS runs a private break-bulk facility about 20 miles upstream of Paramaribo, which specialises in the handling of mining and logging, offshore supply and cement.
The company has not disclosed the price of the transaction, which is expected to close in the third quarter of 2011.
