Denmark’s AP Moller-Maersk subsidiary APM Terminals is planning to enter into a concession contract for its $992m Moín container terminal project in the Limón province in Costa Rica.

Limon’s National port authority (Japdeva) and national concessions council CNC have approved the concession contract last week.

The Moín project involves designing, building and operating a specialised container terminal that will handle 1.3Mteu a year in the first phase and involves a 40ha artificial island and 1.5km breakwater, according to

The company will have to complete geophysical and environmental studies for the project 18 months after signing the deal.

Costa Rica could approve the construction work for the terminal in May 2013 and APM plans to complete the first berth by mid-2015.
