Australia’s Sydney Ports Corporation will increase charges to help fund infrastructure investment, CEO Grant Gilfillan has announced.
Navigation service charges, container wharfage and security charges will increase from 1 July 2009.
As a result, the maritime security charge for full international import and export containers will increase to $1.60 from $1.50 TEU.
According to Gilfillan, this increase will enable Sydney Ports to maintain high-quality security services at major port facilities and help fund patrols of waterside exclusion zones.
However, the corporation needs additional revenue to fund the ongoing construction of a third terminal at Port Botany and other capital expenditure programmes.
