French container shipping group CMA CGM has launched a weekly service between northern Europe, Greece and Turkey in addition to its existing Australia and West Africa services.

The 35-day French Europe Med Express (FEMEX) service will include the Turkish ports of Istanbul, Gebze, Gemlik and Izmir as well as Piraeus and Thessaloniki in Greece.

Five ships with a slot capacity averaging 1,700 TEU will also be used for the FEMEX service.

The ships, built by the Hudong Zhonghua shipyard in Shanghai, are 188.5m long and 26.5m at the beam, with 250 connection points for reefers.

CMA CGM has a fleet of 389 ships ranging from 133-11,000 TEU and more than ten container classes operating on more than 200 shipping routes around the world.
