Container shipping giant Maersk Line will launch a new chassis for its US fleet in a bid to cut carbon emissions.

Under the new business model, Maersk Line will offer chassis for draymen, ocean carriers, marine terminals and railroads, the company said.

The programme will cut carbon dioxide emissions by over 4,000t a year when implemented nationwide, according to company estimates.

Maersk will offer a fleet of over 5,000 chassis in the first phase of this programme, which will begin in the third quarter of 2009 in the US ports of New York and New Jersey.
