Major retail container ports in the US could receive 12.3 million containers in 2009, a drop of almost 19% compared to 2008, according to a report.
US ports received 15.2 million containers in 2008, the lowest since 11.6 million reported in 2002, according to a monthly Port Tracker report released by the National Retail Federation and IHS Global Insight.
The figure is down 2% from May and 22 % from June 2008, marking the 24th month in a row to see a year-over-year decline, according to the report.
