Ship repair, conversion and building firm Drydocks World – Dubai has carried out the first operation on its 6,000t ship lift at Dubai Maritime City’s industrial precinct.
The operation involved lifting and transporting a 2,310t yacht, the MY Bart Roberts, to one of the dry berths in the ship lift facility.
Drydocks World – Dubai subsidiary DMC – ship lift director Hamad Al Maghrabi said that the lifting equipment would improve the company’s ship-handling abilities.
“The Middle East’s largest computerised ship lift is now operational and we are very proud of this achievement. This new development will further support and reinforce Drydocks World – Dubai’s position as one of the most prolific shipyards in operation,” Al Maghrabi said.
The ship lift, manufactured by Hydraudyne Rexroth, is 130m long and 35m wide, and is capable of 14m vertical travel with vessels and platforms.
