The world’s biggest shipyards are competing for contracts at the Gorgon liquefied natural gas project after it received environmental approval from The Australian Government.

Samsung Heavy Industries, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Hyundai Heavy shipyards are competing for contracts worth nearly $6bn for the project off Western Australia’s coast, Bloomberg reports.

The Korean shipyards said that they have already submitted bids for the Gorgon gas facilities, the news service said.

Chevron said that the initial shipments from the Gorgon project are likely to take place in 2014.
