South Korean shipbuilder Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction has developed a new ship-launching method.

The ‘barge to floating dock launching’ method moves an land-built ship onto a barge using a modular trailer before the vessel is transferred to a nearby floating dock, Asiasis reports.

The shipbuilder has launched two diving support vessels with the new floating method.

The company said the method will improve productivity and will be applied to ships that need a longer time in the dry dock construction phase than ordinary vessels.
