Nantong Cosco KHI Ship Engineering, joint venture between China Ocean Shipping Group Company and Kawasaki Heavy Industries of Japan, is planning to build 12 vessels this year.

Nantong City in the Chinese province of Jiangsu, where Nantong Cosco is based, has witnessed the launched of 84 new ships so far this year, vinamaso.net reports.

The figure is up 60% against 51 ships in the same period of 2008.

The company has delivered a total of seven ships so far in 2009 including one 10,000teu containership, two 55,000dwt bulkers, two 300,000dwt ore carriers and two 5,000-unit capacity pure car carriers, the news service said.
