Vessel construction company VIGOR MARINE has won a $13.1m contract to upgrade and refurbish a ship owned by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The 42-year-old, 231ft Rainier, designed for conducting coastal hydrographic surveys, is expected to relocate from Seattle to Newport in 2011.

The Portland-based company aims to finish the renovation work in November 2010.

Vigor Marine is owned by Portland-based Vigor Industrial.
