The US Transportation Department has granted funds to improve ferry services and build new docks and facilities in 15 US states and Puerto Rico, South America.

The projects include the rehabilitation of the Hoboken ferry terminal in New Jersey and the construction of a new ferry terminal in the Oyster Point Marina in south San Francisco.

Programme funds can be used for capital improvements to existing ferry operations to potentially increase the number of passengers, relieve congestion or address environmental or significant operational concerns, according to the department.
