Maersk Line, a division of AP Moller-Maersk Group, is considering replacing vessels in the Mediterranean-North America trade.

The shipping line is planning to replace 5,000TEU vessels with ships of 2,900TEU capacity.

According to a statement, the change is a result of discontinuation of slot purchases by APL and Hapag Lloyd onboard the WestMed, which has resulted in a less capacity required on the service

Vessel phase-in will begin during November and continue for several weeks until all five of the effected vessels are replaced with the smaller tonnage ships.

The service will maintain the same rotation, with the recently announced minimal adjustment to transits to accommodate the new schedule.
