KT Corporation has reached an agreement with Hyundai Heavy Industries to supply fixed-line and mobile telecommunication systems to develop smart ships.
The equipment will be used in the operation of a remote vessel monitoring system, which will be installed in the smart ships, KT said.
Hyundai is building smart ships as part of a Japanese Government initiative aimed at applying information technology to shipbuilding.
KT said it plans to use the technology of UK-based satellite telecom firm Inmarsat.
