Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has revealed plans to develop an environmentally-friendly ferry.

The ISHIN-II, which will be employed with liquefied natural gas, aims to produce around 20% less CO2 than a normal vessel, MOL said.

According to the company, the ship will cut nitrous and sulphur oxide levels and aims to reduce particulate matter.

The excess power generated by the functioning engine and solar panels will be stored in lithium ion batteries to be used during mooring.

Plans to deploy a low vibration power unit with arresting excess heat from the exhaust gases have also been included in the plan.
