A new shipping port in Bahrain has been inaugurated.
The $361.5m Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP) has a quayside of 1,800m and is designed to accommodate more than 1.1 million teu a year.
The port, which occupies an area of 110ha, is four times larger than the capacity of Mina Salman Port, which has been Bahrain’s main port for the past 50 years.
KBSP has the capability to handle ships with draughts up to 15m and is being managed and operated by APM Terminals Bahrain.
The port’s container terminal is 900,000m² and holds 3,800 containers. It berths an average of 41 container vessels while approximately 39 general cargo vessels berth every month.
The terminal has 10,800 ground slots out of an overall storage capacity of 54,000 teu.
