The IMO has outlined measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships.

The IMO will apply operational measures for all ships that include market-based reduction measures to provide emission-cutting incentives.

According to the United Nation’s maritime agency, the measures will deliver the required emission reductions from ships engaged in international trade, if implemented effectively.

A study by the IMO says a 15 to 30% reduction in emissions is possible through technical measures, depending on ship type and size.
