A federal court in New Orleans, USA, has barred Greek ship management firm Polembros Shipping from US waters for violating anti-pollution laws.
Under the condition of restriction, the 20 vessels owned or managed by Polembros will be barred from entering US ports and territorial waters for three years.
The court has asked the company to pay a $2.7m criminal fine for violating ship safety laws and making false statements during investigation.
Polembros pleaded guilty in connection with failing to maintain an accurate oil record book for the cargo ship M/V Theotokos.
The company will also pay an extra $100,000 to the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center to be used to research and mitigate the effects of marine-invasive species.
