South Korean company STX Business Group has developed an arctic ice breaking shuttle LNG carrier and a large ice-class container vessel.

The company said STX Offshore & Shipbuilding and STX Europe jointly built the ice-breaking shuttle LNG carrier, which can break ice up to 1.5m in both bow and stern directions with Double Acting System (DAS).

The company’s newly built ice-class vessel is equipped with a hybrid propulsion system (HPS) and DAS.

The HPS utilises pod propulsion and traditional propeller propulsion systems in response to the navigation environment, STX said.
