The Malaysian Government has deployed the air unit of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) to patrol the waters of Pengerang.

The initiative comes after MMEA surveillance found two foreign oil tankers engaged in illegal oil transfer activities about 2.5 nautical miles off Pantai Tanjung Kapal, Pengerang, according to local reports.

Initial investigations found one was registered in Tarawa, Kiribati and the other in Majuro, the Republic of Marshall Islands, according to MMEA sources speaking to theborneopost.com.

The captains and crewmen of both tankers are believed to have been taken in for questioning.
