China Capesize Bookings Rise

The number of iron ore and coal-carrying Capesize ships that deliver to China jumped by 38% last month, it has been revealed. Global raw material producers and traders hired 80 vessels to ship cargo to China in January, up from 58 in December, Clarkson Research Services said.

Global raw material producers and traders hired 80 vessels to ship cargo to China in January, up from 58 in December, Clarkson Research Services said.

Australian vessel bookings for transhipment rose 41% to 52 vessels and South Africa posted an increase of five ships from one, according to the report.

Brazilian firms remained at 14 orders throughout the period, it said.

Lease rates for Capesize ships last month declined 13% to $32,182 a day. The average Capesize vessel chartered to deliver a cargo to China will haul about 163,000t of cargo, according to the data.
