Kyokuyo Shipyard has received an order from Nissan Motor Car Carrier in Japan to build two environmentally friendly vessels.

The 2,000-unit pure car carriers (PCC) will be designed to cut wind resistance by 50% compared to a conventional PCC design, the Japanese shipbuilder said.

The vessels, to be delivered by September 2010, will be operated in Europe and the North Sea by Nissan subsidiary Euro Marine Carrier.

Kyokuyo said each vessel can save about 800t of fuel and about 2,500t of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
