German firm Schiffahrtskontor Altes Land will equip two type-183 ships it is building for Sietas group with a Dynamic Positioning 1 System (DP 1).

The DP 1 system will allow the ships to be used as a combined solution for transport and offshore installations including sub-sea operations.

Being built under a €120m ($165m) contract signed in July last year; the vessels are scheduled to be delivered in December 2010 and March 2011, respectively.

The vessels feature two cranes for a combined lifting capacity of 2,000t and a service speed of up to 20kt.

The ships will be suitable for offshore windmill installation activities including the installing of piles, mounting of transition pieces and feeding of components from shore to offshore installation platforms.
