The US State of Maine has won $14m federal grant to upgrade ports in Portland, Searsport and Eastport.
Maine said it will spend $5m on the international marine terminal in Portland to improve access to the pier and cargo-handling capacity.
The funds under the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant will also be used to build a new berth for large cruise ships at the ocean gateway terminal.
Searsport has set aside nearly $7m to buy a heavy-lift mobile crane and cargo-handling equipment for the dry cargo pier at Mack Point, according to Maine news site mpbn.net.
The remaining $2m will be added to $4.5m in bond funds for improvements in Eastport.
