The US Navy has awarded a contract to US defence company Northrop Grumman to complete planning work for the refuelling and complex overhaul (RCOH) of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.

Under the $80m contract, the company will provide planning work for the overhaul, which includes design, documentation, engineering, material procurement, shipboard inspections, fabrication and preliminary shipyard or support facility work.

The Northrop Grumman-built Lincoln is the fifth Nimitz-class carrier to undergo a lifetime overhaul.

The contract has options which, if exercised, would make the potential value of the contract worth $678.6m.
