Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) is planning to build a fleet of 17 vessels with the acquisition of six ships by 2011.

BSC is expected to acquire a tanker of 100,000t to 125,000t, two product cargo vessels of 30,000t to 35,000t, two bulk cargo vessels of 30,000t to 35,000t and one container feeder vessel of 1,000teu.

The total cost of the six vessels is estimated to be Rs 1,200 crore ($26bn) of which the government could allocate around Rs 700 crore ($15bn) for three of these vessels in the next fiscal budget, according to the financialexpress-bd.com.

The state-owned company is planning to raise the funds by offloading about 49% of its shares in the capital market this year.

BSC has a fleet of 13 vessels with a capacity of around 150,000t.
